Sears Special Run Gift Set
#770198 12-pc Stablemates
1998

The soft dapple grey G1 Swaps in the 1998 Sears special run set is reminiscent of the dapple grey special runs of the late 1980s, such as this Traditional Running Mare and this Classic Arabian Mare.

There is also a vintage old plastic Mystery G1 Swaps very similar to this run floating around. General consensus believes him to be a test run, though it is possible he was part of a very small and unannounced special run.

  1. Really? How (un)common would it be for mystery models to show up? I have a (new plastic) Swaps that has the exact finish of the Citation 1994 dapple. https://sites.google.com/site/mystablemates/sets/1994-jcp

    1. That is AWESOME! Maybe the wrong body got tossed into the painting pile for the SR Citation, maybe he's a test for the SR Citation that accidentally got packed into a set? Who knows?

      Where did you get him?

  2. He has the JCP glossed eyes, and since that set was a remake of the Sears 1992, I think he is a mix up rather than a test run, but I guess he will remain a mystery...
He was in a lot I bought a while ago. He has yellowed a little bit and has a few tiny rubs, but still I'm very pleased to have him!

  3. BTW, did you ever notice the Swaps/Citation switch in the JCP 1996 catalog picture? Same molds switched again!

    1. Yep. I used to study those things for ages each time the catalogue came out. I was so disappointed when the set came out with the wrong mold. :(
